Book Review

Midori is a muskmelon-flavored Japanese liquor (midori in Japanese means “green”). Here, we’ve spiked it with tart zing of lemonade, then mellowed the whole thing with orange notes. If you have two of these cocktails,you may actually go on a rampage and pull the roof off your house. Don’t say you weren’t warned.


  • 3 cups (13½ ounces) small ice cubes
  • 1½ ounces vodka
  • 1½ ounces Midori
  • 1½ ounces thawed frozen lemonade concentrate
  • ¾ ounce triple sec
  • ¾ ounce thawed frozen orange juice concentrate
  • ¾ ounce simple syrup, store bought or homeade


Step 1

Place all ingredients in a large blender in the order listed. Cover and blend until a pale-green slush, stopping the machine as necessary to shake down the canister, less than 1 minute. Divide between two large glasses.

NIBBLE: Bake up some Bacon Skewers. Thread thin strips of bacon onto bamboo skewers, piercing each several times. Brush with maple syrup and sprinkle with cracked black peppercorns. Bake on a large rimmed baking sheet in a 375* Oven for 15 minutes or until browned.
