TSG Review

I had not heard of Michael Smith but the pictures in the book looked good so I’d thought I would give it a try.

I followed all of these recipes exactly as written.

Iron Chef Battle Snack: Avocado, Tuna, and Tomatoes

From the salad section. I like this idea of serving avocados in there shell with tomatoes cilantro and tuna.The first time i made it I used tuna in those packets so the tuna was not in big pieces so the picture came out looking a little gross. I made it again with tuna in a can and left them in bite size pieces it looked much more appetizing as you can see in the picture above. The second time I also drained the tuna before adding it. The recipe calls for you to add the tuna juice but I thought it made everything taste a bit too fishy. I really like this dish and it is perfect for my site, great for couples and if you make it a meal instead of an appetizer, single people.

Not as good as I was hoping. It turned out sorta bitter and bland. I had to add a lot of salt to bring out the curry and coconut milk flavors. I like all the ingredients in this recipe and should make sense to put them together, but this needs to be redone to make this recipe work.

Very nice and super easy. With just 7 ingredients this recipe is one of my favorites fro this book. A tough piece of meat cooked long enough to tenderize it in a broth of beer, it’s own juices, and onions. I usually have short ribs as a dish called Burgundy beef. It seems to have a deeper flavor to me with the addition of wine but this book is called My Favorite Easy Recipes and this one defiantly counts.


Old-Fashioned Doughnut Factory


Makes 36 to 48 doughnut balls

Easier than I ever could imaging. These are not yeast donut holes so they are not as doughy as you might imagine. They are more like fried balls of coffee cake, really good. In the recipe there are three different glazes you can make: Chocolate, Cinnamon sugar, and the one I elected to make, Honey Glazes. You have to make the dough the evening before so you have to figure that in when you want these to be done.



Very happy with the outcome on these recipes that I can overlook the spinach dish that wasn’t very good. Recipes run the gambit on traditional favorites to some pretty unique recipe ideas. Great flavors,measurements in metric and empirical, and just like the title says EASY! Most of the recipes serve 4-6 people but seem to be pretty easy to cut in half. I can definitely recommend this book.
